If you are scheduled for examining your blood pressure the best tip is to avoid any caffeine and smoking at least 30 minutes before the test. It is not necessary to sit straight to take this examination but it is best to sit or lie down for few minutes before checking BP.

For cholesterol testing while you would need to fast 9 - 12 hours in preparation, make sure you do not change your diet just for the sake of the examination in the weeks beforehand. Do keep the doctor informed if in the weeks before this examination you had any illness or a major medical situation like a heart attack within the last three months as they will postpone this examination based on this history.

If you are due for a diabetes test, you would be advised to fast 10 - 12 hours beforehand. But just like for the cholesterol examination it is best not to change your diet in the weeks beforehand just for the examination. You would only be fooling yourself.

For the women scheduled for a pap smear do keep account of your last menstrual cycle. It is best to do this examination 2 weeks after the menstrual cycle. Also, for at least 2 days before the examination avoid any sexual intercourse and also avoid using tampons, spermicides, lubricant jellies, vaginal creams and medications. This is to get an optimum sample but it is okay if not followed.

If you are scheduled for a colonoscopy a low residue diet should be followed in the days leading to the examination. Reduce food which is high in fibre including, oats, fruits, vegetables, brown rice, muesli, etc. Other food items like meat, white rice can be continued as per to your usual consumption. Before the screening examinations, it is advised to take in lots of water and prep liquid to help clean out the colon.
