Do you enjoy a good steak, burgers and hot dogs are a big big? Arteries, heart, eyes and immune system you want you can still choose from. It appears that a high intake of red and processed meat can be fatal.
Red and processed meat intake is associated with higher death rates from cancer and cardiovascular disease, and increased risk of age-related macular degeneration damage to the retina of the eye. Chicken seems inversely related macular degeneration, according to a study in Australia recently, while food fish is not related macular degeneration.
"High consumption of meat has been associated with higher levels of N-nitroso compounds, and advanced glycation end products heme iron, which can lead to oxidative damage and can be toxic to the retina." Dr Elaine WT Chong at the University of Melbourne and others, American Journal of Epidemiology, 1 April 2009.Higher levels of meat consumption is the cause or a marker of potential for risk due to other lifestyle factors.
"High consumption of red or processed meat may increase the risk of death," said Rashmi Sinha, PhD, from the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services in Rockville, Maryland, and colleagues.He called the results of the study, reported in a large prospective Archives of Internal Medicine, March 23, 2009.
This study, the National Association of Health-American Institute for Retired Diet and Health Study, including about half a million men and women, aged 50-72 years in advance. This study began with a food frequency questionnaire to determine how many people eat meat every time the study began.
Foods that are categorized as follows:
Red meat: beef and pork, including meat, cold meats, hamburgers, hot dogs, beef steak and pizza, lasagna and stew.White meat: chicken, turkey, fish, poultry, meat, canned tuna, low fat hot dogsProcessed meat: a good sandwich meat red meat or white meat, sausages (red meat and poulty), hot dogs and hot dogs just fat birdsDuring 10 years of follow-up, 47,976 men and 23,276 women died. Increased overall risk of death for those who ate the largest amount of red meat. Red and processed meat consumption is associated with a modest increase in the number of deaths, deaths from cancer, heart disease and death. Conversely, high consumption of meat is white and the lower consumption of meat is associated with reduced risk of small amounts of death and death from cancer.
